A talk on The Dunkirk Little Ships

Dunkirk Little Ships their work done towed up the Thames2

Join us on Tuesday February 28th at 7.30pm for our talk on Operation Dynamo and its connections to West London.

The story of the Dunkirk Little Ships that helped to rescue members of the British Expeditionary Force from France has gone down in history as a defining moment of the Second World War.

More than 700 private boats sailed from Ramsgate to Dunkirk between May 26 and June 4, 1940, and participated in rescuing over 338,000 trapped Allied soldiers.

Most people have heard of the story, and the phrase "Dunkirk Spirit" is now part of our vernacular, but did you know that right here in Chiswick there are links to the Dunkirk evacuation?

Or what role the Princess Freda, the Thames river cruiser that gives free boat rides each year at our Party at the Pier, had in the rescue.

How did Sea Scouts from Chiswick and Mortlake contribute to Operation Dynamo?

And what connects the SS Titanic with the Dunkirk evacuation?

All will be revealed at what promises to be a fascinating and at times very personal talk by Andrew Krok-Paszkowski.

The Princess Freda, which gives free rides at our Party on the Pier, took part in the Dunkirk evacuation.
