We are delighted that Wayne Bellamy, the RNLI station master at the Pier and one of our trustees, will be giving a talk on the role of the RNLI at this year’s Queen’s Pageant at 7.30pm on Tuesday March 27th, 2012.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant will be the most extravagant staged in London for 350 years.
A 1,000-boat armada, representing every era in Britain’s sailing history, will gather on the river on Sunday June 3 with up to 30,000 flag waving passengers.
The Pageant will magnificently bring the Thames to life; filling it with flag flying boats, resounding with clanging bells, tooting horns and sounding whistles; recalling both its royal heritage and its heyday as a working, bustling river.
You’ll be able to see it along the river from Putney to Tower Bridge and there will be up to fifty big screens distributed along the route. Nearer to home, you will also be able to see them mustering at Hammersmith.
What you won’t see is the painstaking arrangements that will have been put in place to make sure it’s all plain sailing for the many different vessels of all shapes and sizes on the day.
Wayne will give us the inside story on the challenges presented by the Pageant as he is has spent months with the organisers helping to create the master risk register and then developing the Search and Rescue Management Plan for the event.
He has taken on this massive responsibility on top of managing the second busiest Lifeboat Station in the UK and Ireland and preparing for the Olympics.
Chiswick Pier will play an important part in the Pageant being fully utilised by the RNLI to support the operation of 15 lifeboats and over 50 lifeboat volunteers.
After the talk you are welcome to come and join us for a drink at Pissarro’s, the restaurant/bar next door. We have arranged for a 15% discount off the bar on presentation of your ticket for the talk.
Doors open at the Pier House at 7pm and the event will start at 7.30pm. Free to Chiswick Pier Trust Members, £3 to non-members. Chiswick Pier and Chiswick Pier House are at the end of Corney Road and Edensor Road, Chiswick, W4 2UG. Refreshments will be available. Please credit the attached picture to the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.
